The Knights won their series against the Memphis Redbirds (21-16). With Sunday’s victory to clinch the series, the Knights have pulled themselves back to within one game of .500.
Shortstop Jason Matthews, 28, played an integral role in Charlotte’s series victory. Matthews, already playing a premium position, contributed a lot at the plate as well. Matthews posted a 1.253 OPS to lead all players with at least 10 at-bats during the week. Offense has been a struggle for Matthews, as he has failed to break a .600 OPS in each of the last three seasons. However, this season, he is slashing .268/.362/.463, easily the best of his professional career.
Before being promoted, first baseman Tim Elko went 4-for-7 with two doubles and three walks. Staying hot, Elko also launched a three-run homer for his first MLB hit on Sunday to propel the White Sox to a 4-2 victory.

The Barons dropped to worse than .500 after only winning one game in their series against Columbus (13-18). Sunday’s game got postponed, so Birmingham only played five games this week. (Noah Schultz was supposed to get two starts this week, but sees his Sunday start pushed to Tuesday.)
Ryan Galanie, 24, could not be stopped this week. The Barons only scored 16 runs in five games (3.2 per game), so offense was a problem; however, much of the offense they had came from Galanie, who went 9-for-18 with two homers, two doubles, and five driven in. The White Sox drafted Galanie in the 13th round in 2023, and he is on fire to begin the season. Galanie slashed .315/.356/.565 in 21 games with the Dash, and after 11 games with the Barons, Galanie is slashing .359/.405/.615. At this rate, Galanie will earn another promotion this season.

Thanks to a victory in the series finale on Mother’s Day, the woeful Dash managed to split their six games against Bowling Green (18-15).
Center fielder Braden Montgomery, 22, is still unstoppable after his promotion to High-A. Montgomery finished 10-for-21 with three homers, two doubles, and two walks, resulting in an astounding 1.500 OPS. In 30 games between Kannapolis and Winston-Salem, Montgomery is slashing .342/.425/.595, and he has actually handled the higher level better. Bravo to Montgomery, whose hot streak still seems to have plenty of gas in the tank.

The Cannon Ballers dropped four out of six against the mighty Mudcats (22-10). This series was heading in a disappointing direction, as the Mudcats took the first three games, but Kannapolis salvaged the week by winning two of the last three.
Justin Sinibaldi, 23, effectively served as an opener on two occasions, as he made two starts and pitched two innings in each of those games. Sinibaldi could hardly have pitched any better, as he only allowed two opposing hitters to reach base safely over those four frames. Both of those were harmless singles. In addition, Sinibaldi’s efficiency was excellent, as he only needed 43 pitches to pitch those four scoreless innings. This season, Sinibaldi’s ERA is an unremarkable 4.42, but opponents only have a .527 OPS against him, as hits have come at inopportune times. Well done to Sinibaldi on his terrific performance this week.

It is still early, but the ACL White Sox failed to join the Cannon Ballers as a winning club. The ACL White Sox won two games, but they blew a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning to end the week. If they had held on, they would have been .500 overall.
The ACL White Sox enjoyed a great performance by minors veteran Bryce Willits, 25, who is in Glendale down from Winston-Salem on a rehab assignment. Willits finished 5-for-10 with a triple, a double, and five walks. The White Sox drafted Willits in the 18th round in 2022. Willits played in 94 games last year, all with the Dash, and he slashed .248/.328/.336 in those games. Although his overall performance in 2024 was nothing to gawk at, Willits has raced out to a super fast start in 2025.
