0 2

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets beat the Cubs on Sunday to secure a series victory against the top team in the NL Central over the weekend. That victory gave the Mets a 17-11 record against teams over .500 this season. After some early criticism and comments about a “weak schedule,” the Mets are continuing to secure victories against the league’s best.

Explosive offense carried the Mets to a victory over the Cubs on Sunday. Home runs by Mark Vientos, Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo helped the Mets secure a 6-2 win. Lindor hit a go-ahead solo shot in the bottom of the eighth to give the Mets a 3-2 lead, and they never looked back.

The Mets will host a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates starting on Monday. Paul Skenes will be on the bump in Game 1. Obviously, this is significant with Skenes being one of the best young talents in all of baseball. However, there is another reason why this could be important.

On July 5th of 2024, Jeff McNeil hit a home run off Paul Skenes. A solo shot to right field with an exit velocity of 101.3 mph. This home run seemed to be a turning point for McNeil, as he was at .215/.273/.300/.573 with a 66 wRC+ before that moment in 2024. After, he hit .271/.353/.526/.879, with a 143 wRC+ to finish the year.

Let’s see if McNeil will make the lineup tomorrow night, and can make this home run an annual tradition!

Paul Blackburn had a rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. He had 3 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 60 pitches/31 strikes.

The Rockies announced on Sunday that they were relieving manager Bud Black of his duties, in addition to Mike Redmond as bench coach.

Bud Black was in his ninth year as the Rockies manager, and will end his tenure with a 544-690 record. While he finishes his Rockies career below .500, he leaves as the winningest manager in franchise history. The club played their first game in 1993, joining the Florida Marlins as part of MLB expansion that year.

Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reported that Blake Snell joined the Dodgers on their road trip with expectations to begin a throwing program. He did not begin the program, and is now scheduled to meet with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday. Similarly, Tyler Glasnow began throwing over the weekend, but will also visit Dr. ElAttrache on Monday.

Josh Dubow of ESPN reported that Marcus Stroman suffered a setback as he tries to return to the Yankees from a left knee injury. This injury has kept the pitcher sidelined for the past month. Manager Aaron Boone stated that Stroman still had “discomfort” in his knee after a live BP session in Tampa. Stroman will be reevaluated before continuing rehab.
