O’s Win The Series In Anaheim
Sunday’s game in warm and sunny Anaheim, California resulted in a 7-3 win by the Baltimore Orioles over the LA Angels. The Orioles played a respectable game overall but did take advantage of a few gifts from the Angels. The sun caused a misplay in left field in the first inning which resulted in an Adley Rutschman (2 for 5, 3B, RBI) RBI triple and a sloppy start to the Orioles’ sixth inning (walk-stolen base-error-wild pitch) allowed Ramon Laureano (0 for 4, R, BB, SB) to score with little effort.
The Orioles took 2 of 3 from the Angels but went 2-4 on the road trip and are currently 3-6 for the month, so does the win on Sunday signal a cause for optimism or is it simply more of the same pattern from the team?
Zach Eflin (3-1) made his return from the IL and secured the win with a 5.0 inning effort in which he allowed 2 runs (all in the first inning) on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 5. Two of his five innings were clean and he threw 83 pitches (54 strikes) in the game.
Seranthony Dominguez, Bryan Baker and Yennier Cano each held the Angels in check by pitching clean innings in relief.
Felix Bautista allowed a run in the ninth on a Matthew Lugo homerun while striking out one.
Gunnar Henderson went 2 for 5 with a double, a sixth inning homerun, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Ryan Mountcastle went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and a walk.
Cedric Mullins went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base.
Maverick Handley went 0 for 2 with 2 RBI, his first MLB RBI.
