South Siders look for the series win at home

Happy Sunday, and more importantly, Happy Mother’s Day! Today, the Chicago White Sox will face off against the Miami Marlins in the rubber match and finale of this three-game set. In doing so, Sean Burke will be on the mound against Sandy Alcantara.

First, let’s welcome back Nancy Faust, as she returns to the ballpark this afternoon.

Some news early on, as the team seems to be a bit banged up.

Miguel Vargas and Luis Robert Jr. will both get the day off due to injury, and use the off day as a cushion tomorrow. Hopefully the two of them can be back in the lineup this week, but look to be day-to-day right now.

The White Sox also made a bullpen move, as Caleb Freeman was sent back to Charlotte in favor of yesterday’s waiver pickup from the Dodgers, righthander Yoendrys Gómez.

Burke is 2-4 on the year, with a 4.35 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. After a great start, he has cooled down a bit, but has still been solid. Control has been an issue for him, as he’s issued three walks each of the last two outings. Last game out against the Kansas City Royals, Burke went 6 1⁄3 innings with four hits, one run, three walks, and two strikeouts. He looks to carry the success over to today.

Alcantara is seen as the Marlins ace, but this year in coming off of injury hasn’t lived up to the name. In fact, he is 2-4 with an 8.42 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. He has not had All-Star stuff this year, and looks to eventually get back on track and lower that ERA. Let’s hope today isn’t the day, and the White Sox can jump on him early.

Game time is at 1:10 p.m. CT on CHSN and ESPN 1000. In celebration of Nancy Faust’s return to the ballpark, we are hosting a Playback session to watch the game together, where you are welcome to join.
