Game Recap: Guardians’ Offense Lifeless In Tough Loss
Guardians lose Game 2 7-1 to the Phillies
It was a tough night offensively for the Guardians, as they had just four combined hits. José Ramírez went 2-3 with a double and a walk, he’s up to a .287 AVG and an .826 OPS on the season. Carlos Santana and Will Wilson both went 1-3 with a strikeout.
Tanner Bibee had a really solid outing. He went 7 innings and gave up just one earned run on 5 hits, 3 strikeouts, and no walks. After Bibee was pulled was when it got rough, as Jakob Junis and Joey Cantillo combined to allow 6 runs on 8 hits in 2 innings of relief. There appears to be some controversy on the decision to go to Cantillo in that spot, but I believe it was the right decision. It is a long season, and if we want any shot at making noise in October, we need Cade Smith and Hunter Gaddis to be fresh.
The Guardians take on the Phillies on Sunday at 7:10 pm ET to decide who wins the series. The pitching matchup will be Luis Ortis vs Phillies ace Zack Wheeler.
