Morning Briefing: Mets Look to Clinch Series Over Cubs
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Mets (25-14) defeated the Cubs (22-17) 7-2 in Friday’s series-opening win. Clay Holmes threw six strong innings while four Mets, including Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto, homered in the victory.
They’ll look to clinch the series Saturday at 7:15 p.m. ET with Tylor Megill on the mound against Brad Keller.

Nolan McLean made his Triple-A debut on Friday and he looked excellent. McLean pitched seven shutout innings, allowing seven hits (all singles) and no walks with seven strikeouts. McLean’s stock has skyrocketed, and he proved again Friday night why many consider him the best pitching prospect in the Mets’ system. On the entire season, McLean has a 1.08 ERA.

The Braves announced that they designated Eddie Rosario for assignment and called up Luke Williams from Triple-A. Rosario, who played a major role in the Braves’ 2021 World Series championship, signed a contract for a third stint with the team this past offseason, and was one of a few other former Braves who were brought back to the team this year. Williams, meanwhile, had a .350 OPS in 20 games in the minors this year.
