Canada announce roster for WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Finals aiming to repeat 2015 title

Softball Canada announced the 16 athletes who will represent the hosts Canada at the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Finals 2025, scheduled to take place from 8 to 14 July in Prince Albert.

“On behalf of the coaching staff and Softball Canada, we would like to congratulate all the athletes that were selected to attend the Selection Camp at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex this past weekend. It is a huge honour competing for a spot to represent your country” said head coach John Stuart. “Selecting the final roster for the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup was a very difficult task, and that speaks to how prepared our athletes were coming into camp. The staff is very excited to have a solid mix of veterans and younger players on our roster as we compete for a world title on home soil in Prince Albert.”

“I’m very excited to get things going with the amazing athletes chosen to represent Canada,” added team captain Shane Boland.

Canada has won a medal in each of the last four World Cups, but it's been 10 years since their last world championship title in Saskatoon 2015, where they defeated New Zealand 10-5 with a spectacular comeback in the final. Six players from that title-winning team remain in red and white: Abrey, Cleary, Ezekiel, McCullough, Roy, and Schellenberg - all aiming to capture once again the biggest prize in men’s softball.

Since then, Canada has collected two bronze medals (Whitehorse 2017 and Czechia 2019) and a silver medal (Auckland 2022). With 14 podium finishes, Canada has won more medals than any other nation in the history of the event, having only missed the podium in Mexico 1966, East London 2000, and Auckland 2013.

Canada, currently ranked No.4 in the world, has been drawn in Group A alongside No. 1 Argentina, No. 5 Venezuela and No. 8 New Zealand. Group B will feature No. 2 Australia, No. 3 Japan, No. 6 USA and No. 11 Dominican Republic. You can see the full schedule here.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Round, with the top teams from there moving on to compete in the medal round.
