Nationals 10, Guardians 9

There is a quick turnaround to the next game at 7:10PM EDT, so this will be a quick recap of a wild yet frustrating loss for the Guardians, 10-9 to the Nationals.

Luis Ortiz continued his pattern of having a good outing and then a bad one and today was the day for the bad one as he gave up 6 runs.

BUT Nolan Jones showed up today with a double and a 422 foot home run! The Guardians, because of a first inning walk fest for the Nationals Jake Irvin, were down 6-2 entering the 7th.

They proceeded to unload on a bad Nationals pen with seven hits, one walk and six runs. Jose beat out a grounder so I guess his ankle isn't gonna stop him. Angel had a walk and a single in the inning, and Nolan Jones got thrown out at home to end the inning which turns out to be important...

...because Cade Smith got cursed by the seventh inning demon faeries as he gave up three hits, one walk and four runs, surrendering the lead in a rare meltdown for the Guardians' most reliable arm.

The Guardians came back in the ninth with singles from Carlos Santana and Bo Naylor and a sacrifice fly from Gabriel Arias, who looks like he is for real, folks. I am so glad to have been very wrong there. Then, because Brayan Rocchio is cursed, he ended the game with a 94.5 mph lineout.

Well, at least Bo and Santana look like they are turning things around and the Guardians got into a lot of the best arms in a bad Nationals pen. Time to shake this one off and get right after it for game two.
