Morning Briefing: Mets Get Bit With The Injury Bug
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Mets’ injury woes continued to roll on Monday. After Carlos Mendoza announced that Danny Young will undergo Tommy John surgery on Sunday, the Mets faced with more bad news.
Mike Puma of the NY Post reported that the Mets officially placed Jesse Winker on the injured list. This is the result of a Grade 2 oblique strain suffered in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader. Winker is expected to be out for 6-8 weeks. The Mets recalled Brett Baty from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move.
And if all of this wasn’t enough, Puma also reported that A.J. Minter is out for the season. Next Monday, May 12, Minter will receive season-ending surgery for a torn lat. For more details on these injuries check out Allison Waxman’s article.

The Amazins were powered by a pair of 400-plus foot homers from usual suspects. Pete Alonso put the squad in front 2-1 with a 425-foot homer in the fourth inning. The game would remain that score until Francisco Lindor launched a 415-foot three-run shot to extend the lead to 5-1. After some late inning offense from the Diamondbacks, the Mets were able to grit through a 5-4 victory.
