Game Thread: Brewers at White Sox
It may be Hump Day, but it’s also Shane Smith Bump Day!
We’ve got a few roster moves to report on this gloomy, cool Wednesday.
Prior to tonight’s game vs. Milwaukee, the Chicago White Sox returned LHP Fraser Ellard from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Class AAA Charlotte and reinstated him from the 15-day injured list. To make room for Ellard on the 26-man roster, the White Sox optioned…

So, it’s Fraser Ellard up, and Tyler Gilbert down. Thanks for your three spot starts, Tyler. Back to Charlotte you go. It’s a thankless job.
Pretty much the only day of the week the White Sox might have a shot at winning these days is when Shane Smith gets the ball. The Rule 5 Draft steal has been nothing short of spectacular and at this point would easily be the early All-Star selection for the South Siders. Sporting an impressive 1-1 record and a 2.30 ERA, the righthander has by far been the best arm in the rotation. Tonight’s matchup also smacks of intrigue as Smith faces the very organization that deemed him expendable by not placing him on their 40-man roster. Could this evening’s air be thick with the scent of a Shane Smith revenge game, you say? I’m here for it.
Unfortunately, the lineup that will back the righty up is just bad. He doesn’t even get the benefit of having the best offensive player on the team, Edgar Quero, on the field. Maybe the collective can manufacture a few tallies to back their guy, but don’t hold your breath. Here’s how Will Venable puts them out tonight.

Tobias Myers takes the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers. The 26-year old made his big league debut with the Crew last year and was excellent for them with a 9-6 record and 3.00 ERA over 27 appearances (25 starts). This will only be his second start of the season as he started off the year on the IL with a left oblique issue. In his first outing against the San Francisco Giants he earned a no-decision and gave up two runs on four hits over four innings.
The Brewers offense has been slow to start. They’re sitting at 19th in the majors and 10th in the NL with a team .249 BA. What we wouldn’t give as Sox fans to have a team BA like that.
