Mets Minors Recap: Mauricio Plays The Field In Rehab Start

Ronny Mauricio made his long-awaited return to the field after St. Lucie’s loss to the Palm Beach Cardinals. The 24-year-old began his rehab assignment on Sunday in Low-A St Lucie. High-A Brooklyn beat the Wilmington Blue Rocks in extra innings behind a four-hit performance by Carson Benge.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (12-9) 3, Erie SeaWolves (15-7) 13 Final In 8 Innings

Binghamton lost its series opener against the Erie SeaWolves on Tuesday, 13-3. The Rumble Ponies’ pitching staff largely struggled, allowing 13 earned runs in the abbreviated game.

Wenninger struggled for the first time this season, allowing six earned runs and striking out only two SeaWolves. On Tuesday, Wenninger ranked second in the Eastern League with 32 strikeouts.

19-year-old Marco Vargas earned the Cyclones an extra-inning, walk-off victory over the Wilmington Blue Rocks in his High-A debut. Carson Benge has put together three multi-hit games in a row while extending his overall hit streak to six games.

Hall allowed four runs (three earned) but was solid overall in the Cyclones comeback victory. Hall has collected 7+ strikeouts in three of his five starts this season, though he has allowed 30 baserunners (18 H and 12 BB) in 23.2 IP.

Low-A

The St. Lucie Mets dropped their Tuesday night match-up against the Palm Beach Cardinals. While he went o-for-3, Ronny Mauricio took a significant step forward in his rehab process as he started at shortstop and played five innings in the field. We will be following Mauricio’s rehab progression closely over the course of the season.

Lanthier posted the longest outing of his young professional career, though he allowed an earned run in his fifth consecutive outing. Cota continued his impressive start to the season, posting 10 strikeouts to only one earned run in 15.1 innings pitched.
