Morning Briefing: A.J. Minter Likely Headed For IL Stint

0 3

Good morning, Mets fans!

Lefty A.J. Minter left Tuesday’s game in the middle of the eighth inning with tightness in his left tricep. Both Carlos Mendoza and Minter himself have now said the injury will likely land him on the injured list.

Mendoza said that Minter will undergo an MRI on Sunday, at which point they’ll evaluate his condition further. Regardless, losing Minter for any amount of time would be a significant blow to the team. His 1.64 ERA over 11 innings has made him a major piece in this brilliant Mets bullpen.

Latest Mets News

The Mets defeated the Washington Nationals 2-0 in a game that featured two rain delays on Saturday. The Mets were once agin carried by their pitching, and they shut out Washington behind stellar outings from Clay Holmes and the bullpen. Francisco Alvarez drove in the only runs the Mets would need with a two-run homer in the second.

Today, the Mets face off against the Nats in the rubber game of this three-game series. Two thriving starters will get the ball, with Tylor Megill (3-2, 1.09 ERA) going up against southpaw Mitchell Parker (3-1, 1.39 ERA).

Former St. Louis Cardinals and Reds general manager Walt Jocketty has passed away at 74. Jocketty spent 13 seasons in the Cardinals organization as their general manager. He won the 2006 World Series and two National League pennants in his time with St. Louis.

The Mariners placed Logan Gilbert on the 15-day injured list with a flexor strain in his right elbow. Luckily for the M’s, his injury has been diagnosed as a Grade 1 strain, meaning that he could avoid a lengthy stay on the IL.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone was noncommittal when asked whether struggling right-hander Devin Williams would remain in the closer role. “We’ll see,” Boone said.
