The Fenway series marches on

The Mariners continued their trend on this long road trip of dropping the first game of the series, but if you had steeled yourself for the inevitable frustrations of a set at Fenway, perhaps that should come as no great surprise. Needing just one win to head home to Seattle with a winning record, the M’s will turn to Emerson Hancock to try to steal the second game of the three-game series.

With the veteran lefty and once-upon-a-time top prospect Sean Newcomb on the mound for Boston, the M’s will turn to their righty-heavy lineup. Dylan Moore will look to continue his scintillating road trip atop the order, while Ben Williamson - who quietly had a nice game coming off the bench last night - will slot into third. Leo Rivas will be at the keystone, while Donovan Solano stands to get some run these last two games with a second lefty in Garrett Crochet due up tomorrow. As for the Red Sox, Blake Sabol will slot in for Carlos Narváez behind the dish, while we’ll get our first look of the series at Romy Gonzalez at second base.

News:

Sauryn Lao performed admirably in his big league debut last night, tossing 1.2 innings of mop-up work while collecting a trio of strikeouts and allowing one unearned run. Alas, with the Mariners’ bullpen in desperate need of any fresh arms, he’s been optioned back to Tacoma, with (you guessed it) Casey Lawrence’s contract being selected to fill the slot. To make room on the 40-man, Víctor Robles was moved to the 60-day injured list.
