Morning Briefing: Mets, Padres Own MLB’s Best Record
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Mets topped the Phillies 5-1 on Tuesday, powered by another multi-hit showing from Francisco Lindor (3-for-5, 1 RBI). New York has now won six straight and improved to 17-7, tied for the best record in the majors with the San Diego Padres.
Today, the Mets will turn to David Peterson (1-1, 3.27 ERA) as they look to complete the sweep against the Phillies. Philadelphia counters with old friend Zack Wheeler (2-1, 3.73 ERA), who is now one of the best pitchers in all of baseball.

Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas both threw at Citi Field yesterday, as tweeted by SNY. It’s another encouraging sign for the two injured starters, both of whom look to be on track to return sometime in June or perhaps even earlier. David Stearns said Monday that Montas is on pace to return in late May or early June.
Jeff McNeil went 0-for-4 in his rehab game with Syracuse, while Francisco Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. That puts McNeil’s OPS in rehab games at a crisp 1.111. Meanwhile, Alvarez owns a .586 mark.
