Prep baseball roundup: Archie Williams soars with three homers in taut win

Archie Williams High launched three homers during Tuesday’s 9-7 home win over San Rafael. Peregrine Falcons junior August Block homoered, doubled and drove in four runs. Senior Jack Evans and sophomore Kingston Weinberg each hit a solo blast for the Falcons (11-7, 7-4 MCAL).

The Bulldogs (9-11, 6-7) were nipping at Falcons all afternoon and tied the game at 6-6 with a two-run sixth inning, before Archie Williams responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Cruz Wexler was 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs for San Rafael, while junior Sebastian Chick was 2-for-4 wiht a double and two runs.

Matthew Baldino homered and San Marin High jumped on host Terra Linda early in Tuesday’s 11-2 victory. Baldino was 2-for-4, drove in three runs and scored twice for the Mustangs (12-7, 10-1 MCAL).

  • San Marin senior Hugh Brady had a pair of RBIs and a run, while junior Chase Rawles singled, doubled and scored two runs. The Mustangs put seven runs on the board in the second inning, then cruised to victory. San Marin’s Sean McGrath and Jaden Brown shared the hill to combine for 11 strikeouts, with two walks and six hits. The Trojans (3-14, 0-11) visit San Marin on Friday for the second half of the home-and-home series.
  • Julian Oliver delivered at the plate to drive home seven runs as Novato belted out a 12-2 home victory over Branson on Tuesday. The Hornets put up five runs in the second inning, helped by a two-run single from Oliver, who was 3-for-4. Oliver added a two-run single in the fourth inning and a two-run homer in the sixth. Senior Dominic Scafani was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI for the Hornets (9-8, 5-6 MCAL). Novato starter JP Harmon rang up 11 strikeouts, while he walked five batters and allowed three hits in four innings for the win. Mo Jacoby was 2-for-3 for the Bulls (6-10, 4-3), who scored twice in the fifth inning as Charlie Osher and Cobe Benjamin each drove in a run during Branson’s two-run fifth inning.
  • A two-run double from Eli Solem in the top of the first inning gave the Red-tailed Hawks the edge as Tam High took a 6-3 win over rival Redwood in Larkspur on Tuesday. Will Gensler was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Hawks (14-5, 9-2 MCAL). Tam built a four-run lead before Redwood (11-7-1, 8-5) struck for two in the bottom of the third inning. Giants senior Sam Gersch was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs , while TJ Beck, Jack Moseley and Kaelin Christman each had a base hit.
  • Junior Luke Martin had a standout day at the plate with a pair of doubles as Marin Catholic came up with a big-run inning late for a 8-2 home victory over Saint Mary’s (3-14) in Tuesday’s non-league action. Martin was 4-for-4 and scored twice, while junior Walker Untermann was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for the Wildcats (10-7, 6-6 MCAL). Cooper Mitchel doubled and drove in a pair of runs, while senior Carson Davis had two RBIs and scored twice.
  • Tomales is turning up the heat toward a potential playoff push after Tuesday’s 6-5 victory over second-place Credo in a North Coast League-II matchup. The Braves (5-7, 2-5 NCL-II) scored five runs in the third and made the lead hold up against the Gryphon (7-10-1, 4-2-1). Tomales will look to stretch its streak to three games on Friday against Roseland Collegiate Prep.
