The Royals hit the magic number of 4 runs to win a game!

The Royals rallied late to beat the Tigers in 10 innings 4-3. The Royals finished out the road trip at 2-8 and avoided getting swept for the second series in a row.

The Royals have now scored 4 or more runs in 8 games this season, they are 7-1 in those games. They have scored 3 or less in 15 games, they are 2-13 in those games. The win also snapped a six-game losing streak.

The Royals hit 4 singles in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead, Pasquantino and Waters had the RBI’s driving in Garcia and Renfroe.

Michael Wacha did what he has done in most of his starts this season, start strong and fade at the end as he gave up back-to-back 2 out RBI singles in the bottom of the 5th inning, as the Tigers tied the game at 2.

Wacha would go 5.1 innings and would leave with a runner on second after a Jonathan India throwing error. But Daniel Lynch would get the last two outs of the inning.

Lynch would start the bottom of the seventh, giving up a leadoff single to Javier Baez, a fielder’s choice and infield single let the Tigers have two on and 1 out. Lynch’s scoreless streak stood at an even 31 innings. But an opposite field single from Zach McKinstry put the Tigers in front 3-2. John Schreiber would come in and surrender a walk to load the bases but would get a 3-2-3 double play to end the inning.

Bobby Witt Jr. who extended his hit streak to 13 games after a 5th inning single, would lead off the top of the 8th, reaching on a throwing error from Baez, he would get to second on the throw as well. Salvador Perez would ground out to third before Mark Canha in his first game back from the IL would hit his second single on the day to tie the game.

The game would remain tied at 3 until the 10th, with Drew Waters as the ghost runner on second, India and the top of the order was up. India would hit a groundout to second that would get Waters to third before Witt hit the game winning sacrifice fly to left.

Carlos Estevez threw a scoreless 9th inning and would get a foul out to third, foul out to right and a pop out to second to end the game. Estevez would improve his record to 1-0 on the year after throwing the last two innings, no save for him today, but he was lockdown again.

It was a much-needed win for the Boys in Blue heading into an off day. Today also concluded 17 games in 17 days, the Royals went 7-10 during that stretch. They are 9-14 on the season now and 3-10 on the road.

They will take Monday off before starting a three-game set on Tuesday night against the 3-win Rockies. As of right now the Rockies are losing the first game of a doubleheader to the Nationals, so they could be 3-18 heading into Tuesday night’s game. The Astros will be in town next weekend after the Rockies series.
