Weekend Rumblings - News for April 19, 2025
We’ve run out of ways to describe how crappy the offense has been.
Anne Rogers writes about the struggling Royals offense.
“This is a game of routines,” manager Matt Quatraro said. “It’s a game of consistency. If there was something glaring that we thought we could do, I think we would do that. But I think we have to trust our guys. We believe in this team. These guys are all competitors. They’re all working like crazy to get better, and at some point, the results are going to come.
“Everybody wants it yesterday. We do, too. But it hasn’t happened yet.”
She also has some injury updates.

Jaylon Thompson also writes about the slumping bats.
“Definitely frustrated,” Massey said. “We come here to win every day and you know that’s the expectation we have as a team. Obviously, we are not doing that right now.”
David Lesky writes about a recent interview from Vinnie Pasquantino on MLB Network.
If you really want to watch one part, go to about 11:42 and listen to what he discusses when it comes to bat speed. Just to recap, they’re discussing the fact that his bat speed is way up this year. He mentions that it wasn’t an effort to swing harder, but just that he got stronger and the swing naturally became quicker. He mentions that he’s not actually sure if it’s better for him and that they’re working on it. He mentions that he yanked a ball the night before and hit it hard, but it was foul and didn’t do anything for him.
Craig Brown notes that the Royals are last in offensive production from four different spots in the batting order.
That’s four Royals on the lowest OPS by batting order position. Four! Out of nine! That has to be impossible. Yet it’s true.
The Royals’ third, fifth, sixth and eighth spots in the batting order have been the least productive in the majors so far in 2025. Their sixth-place hitters have collectively been the worst of any team at any spot in the lineup. So…congrats?
