Game Thread: A’s at White Sox
Edgar Quero’s first MLB game that counts!
When the White Sox try to avoid being swept at home by the West Sacramento A’s this afternoon, they’ll be doing so with a new face behind the mask, as Edgar Quero gets the start after being called up yesterday. Quero has been tearing up Triple-A, so maybe, just maybe, he can put some juice into a lineup that’s hitting a pathetic .200.
Throwing to Quero will be Davis Martin, who had a terrific first game against the Angels (no earned runs in six innings), a horrible second one against the Tigers (seven earned in five), and then made solid recovery in his last outing, beating the Red Sox while giving up one run in six innings.
Facing Martin will be lefty JP Sears, a fairly soft thrower (92 mph tops) with excellent control. Sears threw two quality starts before just lasting four innings against the Mets last time out, He’ll face a Sox lineup that has Quero in the 7-slot, two behind Lenyn Sosa, who has hit Sears well — 4-for-9, with a HR.
Martin will be throwing to Quero and an A’s lineup featuring no one with more than three at-bats against him.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Central on a great baseball day, 66° under mostly cloudy skies with winds from right to left at about 18 mph. Usual broadcast suspects.
