Mets Minors Recap: Drew Gilbert, Jett Williams Club Homers

0 10

Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez were at the top of the order Friday for St. Lucie. The two were rehabbing along with Drew Gilbert, who homered for a second consecutive night.

Top prospect Jett Williams hit a three-run homer for Binghamton, which had to feel good after he went homerless in 148 plate appearances across three levels last season. The 2022 first-round pick missed a big chunk of 2024 because of a wrist injury. The Mets affiliates won two of three and had a pair of postponements. Binghamton played a doubleheader to make up for a game postponed Thursday.

Triple-A

Syracuse Mets (3-8), Lehigh Valley (10-2)

POSTPONED

Syracuse’s game with Lehigh Valley was postponed due to bad weather and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday that starts at 12:35 p.m. ET.

Double-A

Hartford Yard Goats (4-2) 1, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (2-3) 10

Box Score Game 1

Williams and Jordan each hit three-run homers during a seven-run fifth inning to break the game open. Four players had two hits in the rout. Travis Swaggerty doubled twice.

Wenninger (2-0) has been terrific in his two starts, pitching to a 0.90 ERA and 0.70 WHIP over 10 innings.

Double-A

Hartford Yard Goats (5-2) 8, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (2-4) 4

Box Score Game 2

It’s nice to see Williams steal his first base of the year. His stolen base total dropped from 45 in 2023 to five last year in that injury-riddled season. Alex Ramírez was 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.

The Yard Goats scored eight runs in the seventh inning to erase a 4-0 Binghamton lead. (Doubleheaders are seven-inning games.) Orellana struck out five of the eight men he retired and has not allowed a walk or hit in 3.2 IP this season.

High-A

Hudson Valley Renegades (4-2), Brooklyn Cyclones (4-2)

POSTPONED

Brooklyn’s game with Hudson Valley was postponed due to bad weather and will be made up as part of a Saturday doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m. ET. RHP Joel Díaz and LHP Zach Thornton are scheduled to get the starts for the Cyclones.

Low-A

St. Lucie Mets (3-4) 4, Lakeland Flying Tigers (3-4) 3

Box Score

Gilbert belted a three-run homer that brought home McNeil and Alvarez. McNeil will play one more game for St. Lucie on Sunday and then go to Syracuse. Alvarez will play for St. Lucie on Sunday, go to Citi Field on Monday and head to Syracuse on Tuesday. CF A.J. Ewing went 1-for-3 and stole his fifth base. The 20-year-old is hitting .417 (10-for-24) to start the season.

Elissalt fanned five, but gave up a home run. RHP Hoss Brewer got two outs to earn his second save.
