HEE takes a hit

The Royals announced reliever Hunter Harvey will be placed on the Injured List with a right teres major strain and the team has called up pitcher Steven Cruz.

Harvey battled back injuries last year with the Royals that cost him most of the final two months of the season. He returned healthy this year and looked better than ever allowing just one hit with no walks in 5 1/3 innings, striking out 5 of the 17 batters he faced. He became the seventh inning man, giving the Royals a dynamic trio in the late innings with Lucas Erceg and Carlos Estévez. But this injury will likely keep him out several weeks.

The teres major is a muscle in the scapula that can cause sharp pain in the shoulder if strained.

Cruz has made 15 appearances over the last two years with the Royals, posting a 3.44 ERA with 19 strikeouts and 11 walks in 18 13 innings. He struck out six in three innings with Omaha this year, but with two walks and two runs allowed.
