Morning Briefing: Today’s First Pitch Moved Up to 4:10 PM
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Mets have moved the start of today’s game to 4:10 PM due to inclement weather. All tickets for the originally scheduled game will be valid for the earlier start time. As a thank-you, the Mets are offering any ticket holders for today’s game a voucher for a ticket to any remaining Monday-Thursday home game in April and May, subject to availability. Clay Holmes (0-1, 2.89 ERA) will take the hill against righty Connor Gillispie (0-0, 2.25 ERA).

Kodai Senga tossed five shutout innings, and Danny Young, José Buttó, and Ryne Stanek combined for four scoreless innings of relief as the Mets downed the Marlins for their fifth straight victory, 2-0. Francisco Lindor collected three hits, giving him 1,500 for his career. Juan Soto recorded his first multi-hit game as a Met, including an RBI double, and Pete Alonso continued his hot streak with two more hits. Tyrone Taylor chipped in a pair of hits as well, including an RBI single. The Mets have allowed just 22 runs so far, the fewest they’ve ever allowed through their first 10 games of a season.
The Mets will honor the St. John’s men’s basketball team before Wednesday’s game. Zuby Ejiofor will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

2023 NL MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. is going to head to Los Angeles soon to get the final clearances necessary to begin to ramp up in his recovery from last year’s torn ACL. Barring any setbacks, Acuña could return to the Braves in May.

The Red Sox traded righty Quinn Priester to the Brewers in exchange for outfield prospect Yophery Rodriguez, a competitive balance A selection, and a player to be named later. Rodriguez was MLB Pipeline’s seventh-ranked prospect in Milwaukee’s organization. A former first-round pick, Priester has a 6.23 ERA in 99 2/3 career major league innings.
The Brewers have announced they will hold a public celebration of life for Bob Uecker on August 24. The day will feature pregame and in-game commemoration around the team’s game against the Giants.
The Red Sox have called up former Met right-hander Robert Stock from Triple-A Worcester and optioned Cooper Criswell. The 35-year-old Stock is coming off a dominant showing in the Mexican Winter League, posting a 1.60 ERA in 84 1/3 innings.

1978: Trailing 5-2 in the eighth inning, Lee Mazzilli brings the Mets closer with a two-run homer, then with two outs in the ninth inning, Ed Kranepool crushes a pinch-hit, walk-off two-run homer to give the Mets a 6-5 win over the Expos. Mardie Cornejo earns the win out of the bullpen, tossing two scoreless innings.
2018: Adrián González socks a grand slam, and Yoenis Céspedes‘ RBI single in the top of the 12th inning gives the Mets a 6-5 win and a sweep of the Nationals. The win is the Mets’ fifth in a row. Seth Lugo tosses three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn the win, and Jacob Rhame works around a two-out double to secure his first major league save.
2021: Down 2-1 against the Marlins in the home opener, Jeff McNeil crushes a game-tying homer for his first hit of the season. With one out and the bases loaded, Michael Conforto leans into a pitch in the strike zone from Anthony Bass, forcing home the game-winning run.
