Mariners 2025 Spring Training Games #22 and 23: Open Game Thread

It’s Big Cheese and Sandwich Cheese day

The skies are finally sunny in the Phoenix area after some rain showers canceled the game on Thursday and put Friday’s Spring Breakout game into danger. It’s not exactly warm yet, but blue skies and sunshine sure make it feel more like spring training. The Mariners play a split-squad game today with their two potential Opening Day starters each taking the mound: Luis Castillo will have the home game in Peoria, and Logan Gilbert, your newly minted Mariners Opening Day Pitcher 2025, will make the start against the Giants for a fun Logan-vs-Logan matchup.

Home game time: 1:10 PT

The home game will be televised via Mariners webcast, and also broadcast on the radio, at 710 AM Seattle Sports, with Aaron Goldsmith and Gary Hill Jr. on the call.

Here’s how the Mariners will line up for their home start. Garver will catch Castillo, and Polanco is again DHing while Ben Williamson covers third base.

Also scheduled to pitch in the home game: Eduard Bazardo, Josh Fleming, Shintaro Fujinami, and Adonis Medina.

Bonus: make sure to check in to the broadcast in the third inning, when new Tacoma Rainiers broadcaster (and podcast guest) Rylee Pay will be in the booth.

Away game time: 1:05 PT

Sadly, there is no video feed for the away game, and no home broadcasters for the Mariners calling it. If you want to follow that one, you’ll need to listen to KNBR 680 for the Giants broadast, either via the MLB app or somewhere else.

On the road in Scottsdale the lineup includes leadoff man Luke Raley (!), with Cal Raleigh acting as the batterymate for Gilbert. Lazaro Montes and Cole Young, who both played in last night’s chilly Spring Breakout game, will have a sleepy-eyed start.

Also scheduled to pitch in this game: Drew Pomeranz, Austin Kitchen, Carlos Vargas, and Sauryn Lao.

News:

The Mariners made a roster move today, re-assigning 1B Tyler Locklear to Triple-A Tacoma.
