Good morning, Mets fans!

This year’s trade deadline is set for Thursday, July 31 at 6 p.m. EST, according MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The Mets were active last season, acquiring Phil Maton, Ryne Stanek, Luis Torrens, Jesse Winker, Paul Blackburn, Tyler Zuber and Huascar Brazobán in trades.

Though the Mets-Astros game ultimately finished with 11 total runs, the first six innings were scoreless. Tylor Megill threw four scoreless innings, and Max Kranick and Reed Garrett combined for two more scoreless frames. However, Jose Ureña yielded five runs in the seventh, and Houston rallied to win 7-4 after the Mets squandered a four-run lead. Read MMO’s recap here.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora says that Lucas Giolito is undergoing an MRI today and hopes to have more information on the situation by Thursday. “Hopefully, it’s nothing major and he can make his next start,” Cora said. Giolito had experienced hamstring tightness in his spring debut, exiting after just an inning of work.

Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman of the New York Post report that first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. recently (a month or so ago) turned down a massive contract extension offer, supposedly in the neighborhood of $500 million. However, due to deferrals, the actual present-day value was likely closer to $400-450 million.

Guerrero indicated to ESPN last week that he is looking for 14-plus years.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have optioned Korean utility man Hyeseong Kim to Triple-A. The move does not come as huge surprise, as he’s been struggling throughout spring training. It’s expected, however, that the 26-year-old will make his way back to the majors at some point during 2025, once he adapts to American pitching. With Kim optioned, Kiké Hernández and Miguel Rojas are now likely to see the most time at second base for Los Angeles.
