The Mariners face the Dodgers and Emerson Hancock makes a suddenly important-feeling start

The Mariners return to play under the lights tonight against the Dodgers. Emerson Hancock will get the start, which takes on extra significance now that George Kirby is reportedly to open the season on the IL with shoulder inflammation.

The Mariners continue to slow-play Jorge Polanco, who makes another start at DH. Ryan Bliss gets the start at second. The outfield corners will be held down by a pair of prospects to start in Spencer Packard and the electric Lazaro Montes.

Scheduled to pitch behind Hancock are Casey Legumina, Eduard Bazardo, Shintaro Fujinami, Josh Fleming, Adonis Medina, and Hunter Cranton.

Here’s the lineup the Dodgers will be bringing to Peoria. It includes some familiar names, like former Mariner Teoscar Hernández and briefly-a-Mariner Michael Chavis. Righty Matt Sauer is indicated as the starter on the game notes for today, but this graphic lists lefty Justin Wrobleski instead. I’m sure DMo is hoping for Sauer; he might be alone in that, as the other hitters are probably hoping to get their spring totals up off the homer-prone Wrobleski. Also scheduled to pitch: Giovanny Gallegos, who like Wrobleski has a subpar fastball he throws too often; lefties Jose E. Hernandez and Jack Dreyer; and Jose Rodriguez.

Today’s game will be televised on ROOT Sports NW and also broadcast on Dodgers Sportsnet LA. You can also listen on 710 AM Seattle Sports, with Rick Rizzs and Gary Hill Jr. on the call. Game time is 5:40 PT, 6:40 MT as Daylight Savings Time doesn’t kick in until Sunday.
