Game Thread: Cubs at White Sox (delayed, rain, or threat of rain, or perhaps why play at all)
Another Crosstown battle with the South Siders as underdogs, sigh
As is often be the case with game threads, particularly in springtime, the White Sox have punctuated pregame with some roster shuffling:

WHITE SOX MAKE FIVE ROSTER MOVES
GLENDALE, Ariz. – Prior to today’s spring training game vs. the Cubs, the Chicago White Sox made the following five roster moves:
Optioned to Class AA Birmingham (1): RHP Juan Carela;
Reassigned to minor-league camp (4): INF Jacob Gonzalez, C Adam Hackenberg and OFs Braden Montgomery and Wilfred Veras.With the moves, the White Sox have 61 players remaining in camp: 30 pitchers, five catchers, 17 infielders and nine outfielders.
Juan Carela was a courtesy presence in MLB camp and was never breaking camp with the White Sox; Birmingham is his logical starting point for 2025. Of the other four players, AA-AAA catcher Adam Hackenberg and RF Braden Montgomery made a good impact in limited Cactus League play. Hackenberg is now particularly pressed for playing time, anywhere really, with the imports to the org of Korey Lee, Edgar Quero and Kyle Teel.
Carela is South Side Sox’s No. 31 prospect, Gonzalez is No. 16, Veras is No. 25, Hackenberg ranks No. 94, and Montgomery No. 6.
Today’s game was a routine, 2:05 p.m. CT start, until clouds or rain or a threat of rain or whatever delayed it.
The White Sox have confirmed a delay, as well as an expectation the game will be played.
Thus, an 11th loss is in the offing, as Shane Smith takes on the Cubbies. With the exception of Chase Meidroth leading off and playing shortstop, and Omar Narváez catching, this could be pretty spot-on as an Opening Day lineup. (Lenyn Sosa at short and not DH, someone else catching as Omar is a long shot to crack the roster, and some other hot bat in at DH would seem to be plausible tweaks.)
