When the White Sox dealt Garrett Crochet to Boston in December, Chase Meidroth was one of the four prospects who came in return. In an on-broadcast interview during an early Cactus League game, GM Chris Getz noted Boston’s hesitancy in discussions to part with Meidroth.

That hesitancy from Boston was likely related to Meidroth’s plate discipline (a skill set that’s been very clearly targeted in recent acquisitions by the club) combined with his overall proximity to being major league-ready. At Triple-A Worcester in 2024, Meidroth slashed .293/.437/.400 with a 132 wRC+, seven homers, and 13 steals. His 1.48 BB/K was his best rate since college. He had just a 2.6 swinging strike%.

This was after the 2023 season, when Meidroth put up a 130 wRC+ across High-A and Double-A. He’s hit well above average at every one of his stops since turning pro. The questions for Meidroth surround his ability to hit the ball hard enough to do consistent damage.

Defensively, third base seems to be Meidroth’s best position. He projects as average at second, while potentially playable at short. Depending on the roster that heads to Chicago for Opening Day, the infielder’s versatility should help him make his debut fairly early in the 2025 season.

Thus far, Meidroth is only OPS’ing .479 in a small Cactus League sample, but on the 2025 projections front, a lot of systems view his 2025 outlook in the major leagues favorably: Steamer is the high system on his OPS (.703), and it projects him to hit to a 108 wRC+ with a 1.3 fWAR over 68 games.

As the roster currently stands, Meidroth is likely on the outside looking in when it comes to breaking camp with the White Sox due to not yet being on the 40-man roster, along with the NRIs the club brought in. The Sox can afford to be patient, even though Meidroth’s disciplined profile screams major-league ready.
