Morning Briefing: Acuña, Baty Swap Positions for a Day
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Mets experimented with some new defensive positions, as manager Carlos Mendoza placed Brett Baty at second base and Luisangel Acuña at third. Via an interpreter, Acuña said he felt good about his ability to play the position. “Feel good…every day learn something new…. Third base is different from shortstop.”
And as the final roster crunch approaches, it could come down to these two fighting for the last backup infielder spot. Their ability to play unfamiliar positions will play a key role in the organization’s decision on who might ultimately be demoted.
Currently, however, it appears Baty has a slight edge. He’s batting .444 with two home runs in 18 at-bats.
