Jose Siri Goes Yard Again; Mets Fall To Red Sox
The New York Mets got a look at Paul Blackburn this afternoon as they faced Walker Buehler and the Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida. Blackburn struggled, but flashes of life from the offense factored into the Mets’ 6-4 loss.
Blackburn had a rough outing, surrendering four earned runs and two walks while facing six batters over 23 pitches. He was pulled after just 1/3 of an inning following a passed ball and a walk, with Douglas Orellana stepping in to finish the frame. Blackburn returned for the second and managed a clean inning, but his overall performance left much to be desired.
Brandon Waddell allowed two runs on three hits and a walk, helping Boston extend their lead. However, the rest of the Mets’ bullpen, including Genesis Cabrera, Grant Hartwig, Rico Garcia, Anthony Gose, and Orellana, kept the Red Sox off the scoreboard. On defense, Brett Baty made an outstanding play at third, diving to his right before firing a strong throw to first baseman Jared Young.
Jose Siri continued his impressive spring, going 1-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch and blasting a towering three-run homer over the left-field wall and out of JetBlue Park. It was Siri’s third home run of the spring and his second in as many days. Jeff McNeil also had a productive game, going 2-for-3 and scoring a run. The Mets finished 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven men on base.
Player Of The Game: Jose Siri
Jose Siri’s moonshot to left field punctuated a strong two days for Siri, hitting his second home run in two days and his third in camp. He would go 1-for-2 with a hit by pitch and his three-run home run today.
On Deck
The Mets return to Port St. Lucie as they welcome a split-squad Marlins team to Clover Park. Kodai Senga is projected to get the start for the Mets, while Connor Gillispie will toe the slab for the Marlins. First pitch is at 6:10 pm ET and will be broadcast locally on SNY.
