Morning Briefing: Rob Manfred Reviewing Bid to Reinstate Pete Rose

According to ESPN’s Don Van Natta Jr., MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is reviewing a bid to reinstate the recently-deceased Pete Rose, which would make him eligible for the Hall of Fame.
Rose spent 24 seasons in the majors, slashing .303/.375/.409/.784. He had 4,256 hits in his career, the most in MLB history, but was banned from baseball for betting on the sport. The action is “being sought posthumously by his family,” lawyer Jeffrey Lenkov told ESPN.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Mets skipper Carlos Mendoza revealed pitcher Kodai Senga will pitch one inning in spring training and return to live batting practice, after battling a shoulder strain. Senga, 30, only threw 5 1/3 regular-season innings for the Mets last season as his 2024 campaign was riddled with injury.
