Looking for another win

Spring continues as the A’s prepare to take on their division rivals for a Saturday afternoon matchup.

We are now officially in March, which means we will be seeing real baseball by the end of the month. Opening Day is just three short weeks away. It honestly cant come soon enough. Spring Training is awesome, but let’s get to the real ball.

On the bump for the A’s will be righty Osvaldo Bido, set to make his second start of the spring. His first went just about as well as one would hope as he fired off two scoreless innings in his first spring action. There is a lot of early hype around Bido early in camp and his first outing was encouraging. Let’s temper our expectations for the 29-year old righty but we may have a hidden gem in Bido. He’s sitting in the driver’s seat for that final rotation spot and another strong outing today would help solidify him there. We should expect three or more innings out of him today, but we’ll see. It’s all about pitch counts right now.

How our A’s will line up today:

Not many regulars in today’s starting nine. Outside of Shea Langeliers, Seth Brown (platoon), and Brent Rooker, everyone in today’s lineup is looking from the outside in on an Opening Day roster spot. We know first baseman Nick Kurtz won’t start the year with the big league club but Max Schuemann and Darell Hernaiz are seemingly in a battle for that coveted bench spot. And don’t sleep on Luis Urias, a late signee who could be a factor for the club this year. Who will win that battle?

Los Angeles meanwhile will counter with longtime Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks, who signed on with the Angels on a 1-year deal back in November. We should be seeing plenty of him this coming season as Los Angeles continues to try to piece together a competent starting rotation. Let’s see if that works for them, though it hasn’t worked for the Halos in recent years. They really are trying to waste Mike Trout’s career, aren’t they?

For the Angels:

Let’s go A’s!
