The White Sox acquired Alexander Albertus from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the July 2024 three-way trade that sent reliever Michael Kopech to the Boys in Blue. Born in Aruba, the Dodgers signed the young infielder when he was only 17.
Now 20, Albertus is still in the early stages of his professional baseball career. He’s shown a knack for getting on base, consistently posting high on-base percentages since his debut. While not known for power, he does have the ability to knock a few over the fence, but it’s really his contact skills and plate discipline that make him an intriguing prospect.
Albertus has experience playing multiple infield positions, including third, short, and second, which adds to his versatility and value, although he is a pretty average fielder at all spots. He played most of his games at third last season, where he amassed a .966 FLD%.
Albertus started the 2024 season in the ACL, where he absolutely dominated, slashing .342/.479/.460 with a .938 OPS, including 27 walks in 32 games. Based on his performance in Arizona, the Blue Crew promoted the infielder to their Low-A affiliate in late June, where he didn’t fare quite as well. He hit only .229/.317/.329 with a .646 OPS over 19 contests.

Unfortunately, Albertus also suffered a leg injury just before the trade, ultimately ending his season. At the time, the team described the injury as a stress reaction in his left tibia. They believed that rest and rehabilitation would be enough for him to recover, but he ended up undergoing surgery in November to reset the fracture. The Sox expect him to be completely healthy for the 2025 season.
Looking ahead, Albertus could potentially develop into a valuable utility player for the South Siders. His ability to play multiple positions, coupled with his strong on-base skills, could make him a key contributor off the bench or even a starter down the line. As he continues to gain experience and refine his skills, Albertus will be one to watch as he moves through the farm system. He likely starts with Low-A Kannapolis and could move to Winston-Salem mid-season with a solid performance at Kanny.
