Projecting the Mets’ 2025 Lineup After Pete Alonso’s Return
The New York Mets played the long game and were very patient in the Pete Alonso free agency story. On Wednesday, the Mets won the battle, as the two sides agreed to a two-year, $54 million deal with an opt-out after the 2025 season. He’ll get a $30 million salary in 2025. With Alonso back for another season, the Mets can pretty much pencil in their 2025 everyday lineup, and it looks a lot stronger with the Polar Bear in it.
Alonso adds length to a pretty deep and versatile lineup that added Juan Soto and Jose Siri earlier this offseason. Francisco Lindor, Mark Vientos, Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Álvarez, Jesse Winker (who the Mets re-signed), Starling Marte, Tyrone Taylor, and Jeff McNeil all return from 2024. There’s also the possibility of Luisangel Acuña and Ronny Mauricio making their way back on the major league roster at some point in the season. The team has plenty of depth, and manager Carlos Mendoza can mix and match whichever he chooses in a game. He will likely choose between Winker and Marte for the designated hitter spot, depending on the starting pitcher, unless Marte is traded before the season. With that being said, let’s take a look at how the Mets lineup stacks up for this year.

2025 Mets Projected Lineup
1. Francisco Lindor, SS
2. Juan Soto, RF
3. Pete Alonso, 1B
4. Mark Vientos, 3B
5. Brandon Nimmo, LF
6. DH, Starling Marte vs. LHP, Jesse Winker vs. RHP
7. Francisco Alvarez, C
8. Jeff McNeil, 2B
9. Jose Siri, CF
The bench will consist of Taylor, Luis Torrens, either Marte or Winker, depending on who is at DH, and potentially Mauricio or Acuña as further infield depth. The team also signed Nick Madrigal to a split contract and Jared Young to a minor league deal. Fan favorite Jose Iglesias is currently a free agent and is reportedly seeking a multi-year contract.
The lineup could be flexed at any point during the season, but it looks to be very potent as of now, especially now that Alonso is back in the middle to help out Lindor, Soto, Vientos, and Nimmo around him. Every player in the starting nine other than Siri is projected by FanGraphs to have a wRC+ of at least 104, and Vientos, Soto, and Alonso are each projected to hit at least 30 homers. With the Polar Bear back in the fold, the Mets’ lineup is shaping up to be one of the best in the National League, positioning them well to make a run at their first NL East title in a decade.
