Tampa Bay Rays place five prospects among MLB Pipeline’s Top 100
Four former first round selections, plus a third round pick are included
MLB Pipeline has published their top 100 prospects entering the 2025 season and like many other publications, their list is littered with Tampa Bay Rays.
There were no surprises for the Rays on the rankings. Carson Williams, who has been ranked among the top 10 prospects in the game by most prospect pundits, was slotted in at 9th overall. The remaining four Rays prospects were sprinkled throughout the bottom half of the top 100.
Here is where each Rays prospect ranked:
9. Carson Williams
51. Xavier Isaac
67. Brayden Taylor
94. Tre’ Morgan
99. Theo Gillen
The five players on the top 100 speaks to the Rays success drafting recently as Carson Williams, Xavier Isaac, Brayden Taylor, and Theo Gillen are all former first round picks, while Tre’ Morgan was a 3rd round selection.
Williams and Morgan are two of the best defenders in all of the Minor Leagues at their given positions, while Isaac is more known for the thunder in his bat. True to organizational philosophy, 2023 first-rounder Taylor could prove to be a versatile defender who moves around the dirt while being a decent power-speed threat. Gillen – last year’s 18th overall pick – showed improved impact at the plate before the Draft and could similarly take off offensively with pro instruction while he learns a new position in center.
Carson Williams is the best defensive prospect in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline and Xavier Isaac was considered among the most powerful with 70-grade power.
While answering fan’s questions, Jim Callis (who is heavily involved with MLB Pipeline), stated that Isaac is among the prospects with the lowest floors but highest ceilings.
Rays first baseman Xavier Isaac (No. 51) and Blue Jays shortstop Arjun Nimmala (No. 87) are two more guys who have large gaps between their floor and ceiling. Isaac could be a 40-homer guy, but he also struck out at a 40.6 percent clip once he got to Double-A, where he missed on 49 percent of his swings
Meanwhile, the Rays were very close to having two more prospects join the top 100 as outfielders Chandler Simpson and Aidan Smith both received consideration for placement.
Among the Rays five prospects to be placed on the Top 100, Xavier Isaac, Brayden Taylor, and Carson Williams will all be in camp as non-roster invites.
