Report: Mets Bring Back Ryne Stanek

0 4

The Mets have made an additional move to bolster their bullpen. Postseason standout Ryne Stanek is making his return to Queens, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Mark Feinsand of MLB reports the deal is worth $4.5 million, with an additional $500,000 potentially through incentives.

The right-handed fireballer has signed a one-year deal with the Mets. Stanek was initially traded to New York in a deadline deal last July for outfield prospect Rhylan Thomas.

Stanek preceded to struggle with the Mets, pitching to a 6.06 ERA in 17 appearances. But once the calendar turned to October, Stanek’s performance turned around. The 33-year-old had a 3.38 ERA in seven games, becoming the go-to bullpen option this side of Edwin Díaz. Stanek even finished three of those games when the Mets tried to give Díaz some rest following a few lengthy outings toward the end of the season.

Pitching in the postseason wasn’t new for Stanek. The righty reliever pitched in the playoffs in parts of four seasons for the Marlins and Astros, after coming up to the big leagues as a member of the Rays. He has a career 2.98 ERA in 28 playoff innings and has allowed only 14 hits during that span.

Met fans hope he will garner more October accolades this year in Flushing.
