South Africa stay undefeated on Day 2 of the WBSC Africa Youth Baseball5 World Cup Qualifier
Day two of the WBSC Africa Youth Baseball5 African Championships was another action-packed day filled with intense competition. The six participating nations showcased their talent and determination. Fans arrived in numbers to witness the fantastic event, creating an electric atmosphere at the Western Cape Sports School in Cape Town, South Africa. The matches were tough, but all teams demonstrated incredible spirit and sportsmanship, providing fun and entertainment for everyone in attendance.
Ghana opened the day with a confident 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe. Their sharp teamwork and disciplined gameplay allowed them to dominate both sets (11-1, 14-0) and set the tone for their campaign. Kenya followed with an emphatic win over Lesotho, displaying their strength with two dominant sets (29-4, 25-2) to secure another critical 2-0 result. Tunisia then continued their strong form with a 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe, using their precision and tactical awareness to take the sets 12-2 and 14-3.
The drama intensified in the clash between Ghana and Kenya, one of the day’s most thrilling matches. Ghana took the opening set 5-1, but Kenya came roaring back to edge the second set 4-3. In the decisive third set, Ghana held their nerve to claim a hard-fought 3-2 win, earning a crucial 2-1 victory in a match that could have gone either way.
The day concluded with a blockbuster showdown between tournament favourites Tunisia and hosts South Africa. Tunisia came out firing and took the first set 7-1, but South Africa showed incredible resilience to level the match by taking the second set 8-1. The third set was an intense back-and-forth battle, with South Africa ultimately prevailing 5-4 to claim a 2-1 victory. The win kept South Africa’s unbeaten streak alive and solidified their position as a top contender for the championship.
