Morning Briefing: Jose Siri Shines in Winter League Play

Good morning, Mets fans!

Offseason acquisition Jose Siri shined at the plate in Dominican Winter League play on Friday night. The center fielder had two hits in five at-bats with a triple, a walk, two RBIs, and two runs. Siri has played well this winter and figures to split time with Tyrone Taylor in center field in 2025.

According to SNY’s Jim DuquettePete Alonso‘s camp has offered the Mets a three-year contract that features opt-outs. Duquette noted that no deal is close at the moment.

The Brooklyn Cyclones, the Mets’ High-A affiliate, announced on X that they are installing an upgraded video board for the 2025 season.

According to Dan Martin of the New York Post, the Yankees fans who notoriously interfered with Mookie Betts during Game 1 of the World Series have been banned indefinitely from all major league ballparks.

The Cubs signed starter Colin Rea to a one-year, $5 million deal. Rea had a 12-6 record with a 4.29 ERA with the Brewers in 2024.

The White Sox signed former Met Omar Narváez to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. Narváez played in 28 games with the Mets in 2024 before latching on with the Astros’ Triple-A team.

Tyler Skaggs’ family’s trial against the Angels has been delayed again and will now take place in September this year. It was initially scheduled for October 2023.
