Nationals Sign Amed Rosario
The day after the fourth anniversary of the New York Mets trading Amed Rosario, Andrés Giménez and two prospects to the Cleveland Guardians for star shortstop Francisco Lindor and pitcher Carlos Carrasco, the Washington Nationals announced they’ve signed Rosario to a one-year deal. Multiple reports say the deal is for $2 million.
Rosario, 29, had a mixed-bag 2024 season between three teams that netted him a World Series ring from the Dodgers. He had a 116 wRC+ in 76 games for the Rays to start the season before being traded in July to the Dodgers. It was the second straight year he was traded to the Dodgers after being traded for Noah Syndergaard in 2023. The former Met went 3-for-11 in five games for the Dodgers before he was placed on waivers and claimed by the Reds. Things did not go well for Rosario with the Reds; he had just a 3 wRC+ in 22 games.
Overall, in 103 games, Rosario had a 96 wRC+ and 0.3 fWAR between the three teams last season. He showed versatility on defense, playing shortstop, second base, third base and right field.
Rosario showed promise in his first two seasons with the Guardians, posting a 2.8 fWAR in 2021 and a 3.0 fWAR in 2022, but has a combined 0.7 fWAR over the last two seasons.
