Mariners Moose Tracks, 12/22/24: Rickey Henderson, Jesus Luzardo, and Carlos Santana
In Mariners news...
- Luke Arkins makes the case for Victor Robles, Seattle Mariner beyond just his resurgent 2024 second half performance.
Good evening! Víctor Robles was great this year. Should we expect more of the same in 2025 or regression from Robles? #Mariners

Around the league...
- At the age of 65, one of the undeniable all-time greats of the game, Rickey Henderson, has passed. When a person, a presence, as large as Rickey Henderson leaves us, in their wake is a million stories of why they were so great, and why they meant so much. As I’m sure many of us have done since hearing the news, let us keep these stories in our hearts, share them with one another, and today’s legends will continue to inspire the next, just like Rickey inspired so many of us.
- Jesus Luzardo is on the move to Philadelphia, with the Marlins pulling the trigger on a trade.
The Marlins are trading Jesus Luzardo to the Phillies for Starlyn Caba (PHI No. 4 prospect per @MLBPipeline) and Emaarion Boyd (No. 23), per source. @ByRobertMurray and @MattGelb were on it.

- One by one the premier free agent infielders are being grabbed up, and Paul Goldschmidt included, signing with the Yankees. (The Yankees of course, being not the Mariners.)

- The Mariners were thought to possibly be in on Carlos Santana. But the Cleveland Guardians are the ones actually in on Santana, signing him to a one year and 12 million dollar deal.
First baseman Carlos Santana and the Cleveland Guardians are in agreement on a one-year, $12 million contract, pending physical, sources tell ESPN. The Guardians traded Josh Naylor, and now they bring the 39-year-old Santana back for his third stint with the organization.

- Justin Turner is still a free agent first baseman. And he doesn’t want you or Jeff Passan to forget that. (Maybe Jerry hasn’t forgotten, even if it seems like he has forgotten where he has put his phone.)

Bee’s pick...
- We should all take the time to be a Lucky’s Dad for someone(s) in our lives, including for ourselves, and mourn not becoming Wilder’s Mozzy. This piece by Mac Crane found me well, and found me when I needed these words, and maybe you need them too.
