News and Notes for Saturday, December 21st, 2024

Despite it being so close to the swell of the holiday season, there were some minor pitching moves yesterday.

Anthony Gose has officially had enough of the I-71 corridor and will be heading to the Mets minor league system next year. Gose spent a comical amount of time bouncing between the AAA affiliate Columbus Clippers and Cleveland in the 2024 season. The center fielder turned LHP was selected, DFA’d, elected free agency, and outrighted to Columbus a total of four times between August 6th and the end of the regular season. Anthony Gose was an established member of the bullpen before undergoing Tommy John surgery at the end of 2022, causing him to miss all of the 2023 season. Cleveland signed him to a two year deal in 2022, covering his rehab year and the 2024 season. Unfortunately Gose, age 34, could not keep up with the youngsters dominating in the Cleveland bullpen and did not return to pre-surgery form. Gose ended the season with a 10.38 ERA in 4.1 IP across 3 games and elected free agency.

In a move that surprised very few Cleveland Guardians fans, Terry Francona has brought in his ole’ reliable. Bryan Shaw will be a Cincinnati Red. He was signed to a minor league deal and invited to Spring Training.

Cade Smith will be in Akron on January 24th for their 2025 Hot Stove Banquet.

2025’s Baseball America MiLB Team of the Year, the Lake County Captains are posting some of their best plays from this past season. Nothing kicks off a weekend better than a Travis Bazzana hitting a grand slam for his first home run in the Cleveland system.
