MLB news roundup

Happy Monday, Athletics Nation!

Last week, MLB Trade Rumors named Miguel Andujar and Dany Jiménez as non-tender candidates ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Today, Andujar is still an Athletic while Jiménez is a free agent.

Dany was looking like a fine Rule 5 pickup in his first year with the A’s. His control issues were apparent from the get-go, but his stuff was great and he got it working consistently enough to work his way to A’s closer for a brief spell. Injuries plagued Jiménez that season, however, resulting in two stints on the Injured List with a bad shoulder.

In 2023, the 30-year-old righty continued to struggle staying healthy, suffering another shoulder injury early in the season. Since then, Jiménez has struggled to get in a groove, suffering from further injury and serious command issues in the minimal time he’s spent with the big league club. Dany failed to reach 30 MLB innings pitched in either 2023 or 2024 while his BB/9 remained high and now sits at 5.74 through 84 ⅔ career innings.

So the A’s have cut Jiménez loose, but hopefully some other team will take a flier on him and provide a beneficial change of scenery. Now the A’s have four open spots on their 40-man roster as December Meetings and the Rule 5 Draft approach. Clearly, the A’s front office has a good deal of work left to do this offseason.

Have a terrific week, AN.
