That’s a wrap on the 2024 BBWAA awards.

Good morning dear reader, and happy Friday! Let’s dig into the latest from around baseball.

In Mariners news...

  • Adam Jude and Ryan Divish at The Seattle Times report that the Mariners will still broadcast their games on ROOT Sports in 2025, despite recent reports that the team is changing up its distribution strategy.
  • Cal Raleigh has apparently ditched Scott Broas as his agent, leading to some hope that a contract extension with Seattle is on the horizon.
  • The Mariners are reportedly showing interest in both Justin Turner and Carlos Santana, with Adam Jude reporting that it seems likely the team will sign at least one of them this offseason.

Around the league...

  • To no one’s surprise, Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani were named unanimous winners of the 2024 MVP awards.
  • The Cardinals are apparently fielding offers on veteran third baseman Nolan Arenado, who would be a solid fit for Seattle if the money could be worked out.
  • The Rays stadium woes continue, as talks between the organization and the city of St. Pete seem to be falling apart.
  • Some drama is brewing in the Rōki Sasaki sweepstakes, with a handful of baseball insiders whispering that the Dodgers have a handshake agreement with the youngster (which would be against the rules, but would not be unlike what all teams currently do with other international amateurs.)

Anders’ picks...

  • The new Wallace & Gromit goes hard, apparently.
  • ESPN staple Around the Horn is being canceled this coming summer, according to reports.
  • For fans of Jessamyn McIntyre’s work with Sports Radio KJR, she’s launching another project!
