Rookie right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto, after allowing five runs in Game One, rolled through the Padres’ lineup with five shutout innings. Los Angeles’ bullpen combined for four perfect innings to finish the night, extending the Padres’ scoreless streak to 24 innings.

Yu Darvish turned in a strong outing for San Diego as he went 6 2/3 innings while giving up two runs, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the offense’s struggles.

Game One between the Mets and Dodgers is set for 8:15 p.m. ET in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Game Two will be played at 4:08 p.m. ET on Monday afternoon before the series resumes at Citi Field on Wednesday night.

New York is 9-6 all-time against Los Angeles in the postseason. The two sides first faced one another in the 1988 NLCS, resulting in a seven-game series that the Dodgers took home before toppling the Oakland Athletics in the World Series. The Mets then swept them in the 2006 NLDS before eliminating them in the 2015 NLDS over five games.
