Morning Briefing: Mets Return Home Tied in NLDS

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets let a 3-0 lead get away on Sunday in Philadelphia, and after regaining the lead on a Brandon Nimmo homer in the seventh, Edwin Díaz served up a two-run triple to Bryson Stott as part of a three-run eighth inning for the Phillies. Mark Vientos tied the game in the ninth inning with his second two-run homer of the day, but Nick Castellanos lined a walk-off single against Tylor Megill in the bottom half of the inning, evening the series with a 7-6 Phillies win. The series will take a day off before resuming at Citi Field on Tuesday, the Mets’ first game in Flushing since Sept. 22.

Jeff McNeil rejoined the Mets following the birth of his daughter, running through a full practice on Sunday. McNeil said he no longer has pain in his wrist, but he still needs to get the range of motion back. The Mets haven’t ruled out a return for McNeil in a potential NLCS, but the World Series seems like a more realistic target.

When asked about the Mets’ success on their long road trip, Harrison Bader called the team “a traveling circus.”

“There’s not a single guy that’s complained about anything,” Bader said. “We’re actually having the most fun we’ve ever had traveling two weeks on the road. We love it.”
