Morning Briefing: Mets Face Elimination in Game 3
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Mets came into Game 2 of their Wild Card Series with Sean Manaea on the mound and looking to win their first postseason series since 2015. Things looked promising early on as the Amazin’s bats seemed to be alive, scoring a run in the first inning and two in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. However, the Brewers bullpen would turn the lights out on the Mets offense, shutting them down for the rest of the game. While the Mets still held a 3-2 lead going into the eighth inning, that would not last long, as Phil Maton gave up two home runs and three runs to hand the Brewers a 5-3 lead. Devin Williams would close out the game for Milwaukee and force a “winner takes all” Game 3.
Despite the Brewers being 0-26 in their franchise’s history when trailing a game going into the eighth inning in the postseason, they somehow found a way to win. Now, the Mets turn to veteran southpaw Jose Quintana to keep their season alive and put them in an NLDS matchup against NL East foe Philadelphia Phillies. Milwaukee will throw Tobias Myers, but it will be an al-hands-on-deck approach for the both clubs.

Mets trade deadline acquisition RHP Paul Blackburn is done for the season as he still is experiencing issues after his spinal fluid leak a couple of weeks ago, per Tim Healey of Newsday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that Fernando Valenzuela has stepped away from the Dodgers broadcast booth for the remainder of the year to focus on his health.
Diamond Sports Group, who runs Bally Sports, dropped their contract with the Tampa Bay Rays and Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, per Evan Drellich of The Athletic. Four teams’ contracts with Diamond expired after the 2024 season and five other teams couldn’t be dropped but seemingly need to renegotiate their contracts.
