Detroit Detonates Astros in Sweep
The Detroit Tigers finalized their inevitable two game sweep of the Houston Astros in the first Wild Card series to end.
Now, hold on. Some of you may be saying, "Hey, that is not the truth. Fake. Fake, fake, fake!" Well, according to CBS Sports (https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gametracker/recap/MLB_20241002_DET@HOU/) the Houston Astros that went to the ALCS the last several years just got ousted by the turnaround sensation Detroit Tigers. It was an epic meltdown.
Lol? Not really! The Tigers outhit and outscored the Astros in both games. The runs were not high but the pitching was grrreat (get it, like a Tiger)! Detroit ran away with the series under the likes of Tarik Skubal and company these two days. Skubal pitched much of game one and the bullpen did the rest of the series. It was magical.
Where was all the offense? This is mainly a ‘Houston we have a problem’ than a Tiger issue. Though the Tigers’ offense was caged it did detonate the Astros. The Astros managed three runs over two games; that is equal to 1.5 runs a game, far less than the 2024 American League average of 6.66 RPG per Stat Muse (https://www.statmuse.com/mlb/ask/average-runs-per-game-per-year-mlb-last-5-years). That difference in runs amount to over 5 whole runs missing from their offense. Detroit decided to score 3 and 5 runs in games for a tolerable 4.0 runs per game in the set.
Who is next? The Cleveland Indians, no, Guardians are up next. My Ohio fandom will not let me pick a winner here. However, this series should be fantamazing awesomeness!
