News and Notes for Tuesday, October 1st, 2024

Happy October, everyone!

MLB's Wildcard round starts today, with the Mets and Braves punching their tickets yesterday (old friend Francisco Lindor hit a go-ahead home run late in a thrilling game one win for the Metropolitans).

FanGraphs has a Padres-Braves preview, a Tigers-Astros preview, an Orioles-Royals preview and our friends at Brew Crew Ball have a preview of Mets-Brewers.

Check out the recent episode of Disgusting Baseball pod as Matt Dallas and I preview the Guardians playoff roster.

Pete Rose, a man who bet on baseball as a player and manager, who injured Ray Fosse and derailed his career in an all-star exhibition, and whose excuse for allegedly sleeping with a 14 year-old girl was that he said she was actually 16 at the time and when asked about it by a female reporter recently dismissed it as something that "happened 50 years ago, babe" died yesterday. He's also baseball's all-time hits leader.
