From Eastern Kentucky to Guatemala: CRI Founder Visits ALC to Promote Mission Work

By Micah Turner, ALC Student Writer

On September 26th, Alice Lloyd College was pleased to host Mr. Fontaine Greene, founder of Catalyst Resources International (CRI). Mr. Greene shared information with students regarding his group, which sponsors mission trips to Guatemala and surrounding areas in an effort to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the people. CRI provides feeding programs, builds houses and churches, and provides other necessities.

Mr. Greene met with ALC students as a part of Campus Ministries. He shared his experience in Guatemala, a message of faith, and his organization’s goals. “Working with Alice Lloyd College and the June Buchanan School is a taste of home,” he said. “It really brings everything full circle, and though we are thousands of miles away, I see our partnership as something long-term that will exemplify the fruit of patience and the promise of God.”

Mr. Green grew up in Eastern Kentucky. Born and raised in Paintsville, he gave his life to Christ as a high school senior and entered the Air Force soon after. He moved to Washington state and served 8 years. Mr. Greene would later move to Oviedo, Florida, where he would serve as the lead pastor of Hope Community Church. It was in this role that he would embark upon his first mission trip in 2003.

That first trip left a life-long impact on Mr. Greene. In 2006, Mr. Greene established CRI with his wife, Paula, and relocated his family to Guatemala. When asked about his motivation, Mr. Greene discussed his dependence on God. He said, “I learned Godly dependence. When it comes to our organization, we are always looking to see where God worked, and we followed, asking ourselves, “Does this sound like something God would do?”

CRI partnered with JBS to conduct a mission trip to Guatemala this past summer. The groups are working together and fundraising for a return trip this coming summer.

Mr. Greene’s visit comes after the summer’s mission trip to Guatemala and in the wake of preparations and fundraising for next year’s return trip, where volunteers and students will construct a house for a family in need.
