Game Chat: Giants vs. Diamondbacks, 9:40 PM
With the Mets losing to the Braves on Tuesday night, it becomes even more important for New York’s playoff chances that the Diamondbacks keep losing. The D-Backs have lost three straight games –with help from former Met Michael Conforto homering in the last two against Arizona– putting them half a game behind the Mets for the second Wild Card. The Mets also hold the tiebreaker with the D-Backs from winning the season series.
The Giants and D-Backs are back at it on Wednesday at 9:40 p.m. ET in Arizona, with righty Mason Black starting for San Francisco and righty Zac Gallen going for the home squad.
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (79-79) at ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (87-71)
RHP Mason Black (1-4, 5.88) vs. RHP Zac Gallen (13-6, 3.74)
Sept. 25, 2024 • 9:40 p.m. ET • Chase Field • Phoenix, AZ
After this game, the D-Backs have Thursday off before hosting the surging Padres for three games to end the regular season. How the Padres fare on Wednesday night in LA against the Dodgers will also be of interest to the Mets. The Padres clinched a playoff spot on Tuesday and are now a commanding four games ahead of the Mets for the first Wild Card.
However, if the Padres win on Wednesday night, they will be only one game back of the Dodgers for the division, meaning they will certainly be putting out a competitive team in their final series of the season against the D-Backs. And the best thing that can happen to the Mets right now, aside from simply winning games, is the D-Back losing games.
We are all Giants fans tonight!
