Gamethread: A’s at White Sox
The two franchises with the two worst single-season records of the past 125 years face off on the South Side
All right, 114 going on 115. What more is there to say?
Actually, the White Sox currently are on a two-games-worse pace than the current worst team post-1899, the 1916 Philadelphia A’s:
The 1916 White Sox went 18-4 (best in AL) vs the A's (36-117-1 in the worst post-1899 season ever). The A's finished 54.5g out in an 8-team league

Entering today, the 2024 A's have gone 2-1 vs Sox (33-114, on pace to supplant 1916 A's). The Sox are 51g out in a 5-team division
Anyhow, here’s how the Sox line up as they try to avoid their date with destiny:

Ramos leadoff! Crochet trying to make it through at least three innings!
Also, some housekeeping, as Matt Foster’s season is over due to a lower back injury, dude just can’t catch a break. Jake Eder, go ahead and gnash your teeth, was the return in the Jake Burger trade last summer. Until 2024, he was looking like quite a catch. Now, hmm.

Oakland has been playing pretty well in September, to the point where they are 13th in the AL and overall, there are four teams in baseball worse than the A’s. Uncharted territory, relatively speaking.
Earlier start, 6:40 p.m. CT, on the usual outlets.
