Jesse Winker Playing Key Role in Mets Playoff Push

0 0

The Mets won their seventh in a row last night in, dare I say, grand fashion.

That’s right, folks – the orange and blue were powered to an 8-3 victory over the Red Sox on Wednesday evening, with a little help from the walk, and a little more help from the left-handed bat of trade deadline acquisition Jesse Winker.

Winker, acquired from the Nationals back in July, turned a level swing on a 2-2 pitch from Sox starter Tanner Houck and drove it to left-center field, where it just cleared the orange line on the wall, giving Winker his second grand slam of the season.

Winker went on to walk once and score another run later in the game.

“It’s awesome coming to the field every day,” Winker said, smiling after the game. The vibes are great.”

Winker is slashing .306/.341/.471 with three home runs in 91 plate appearances for the Mets. He was acquired from the Nationals to hit and has done just that.

His performance at the plate and his hot month of August warranted a well-deserved 85th-percentile batting run value, further powered by his 18.7 percent chase rate and 12.2 percent walk rate, both within the top seven percent of the league.

All this is to say that Jesse Winker loves life as a New York Met.

“As a player, your whole life, you want to be a part of clubhouses and teams like this,” Winker said. “Everyone, a part of this team, it’s unbelievable people.”
